Housing and Hosting

MWLF has a long-standing tradition of providing housing with local dancers for every traveller who comes to town. We plan to continue that tradition and promotion of good Lindy Housing Karma here in 2010. Both Housing and Hosting forms will be available when registration goes live, please make your request there. If you find out later that you need housing or can host or just need to make a change, contact our housing coordinator at housing@midwestlindyfest.com.

Housing and Hosting can sometimes be a stressful situation. Included below are some basic etiquette points that should help things go smoothly.

Housing

  • Contact your host to introduce yourself as soon as you've been notified by the Housing Coordinator.
  • Hosts will provide a place to sleep and access to a bathroom. (Expect to provide your own toiletries.)
  • Expect to take care of your own meals, but some hosts may have some items or snacks on hand. (Lucky you!)
  • Pay attention to the schedule and plan to attend meals provided by the event.
  • Let your host know the best way to keep in touch with you both before and during the exchange.
  • Let your host know what you can bring for yourself (linens, etc.).
  • Let your host know to what you're planning for transportation. Check with your host(s) for transportation to and from the airport and around town.
  • Let them know your schedule for the weekend and where to find you.
  • Make your "getting ready" time as short and efficient as possible. Be reasonable in the bathroom so that it's accessible to others who need it.
  • Do something for your host to express your gratitude. This isn't necessary, but it's nice and makes the overall hosting experience more positive.

Hosting

  • Contact your guest(s) to introduce yourself as soon as you've been notified by the Housing Coordinator.
  • All that your guests expect is a place to sleep and access to a bathroom. (They will provide their own toiletries.) Determine what linens your guests will need to bring for themselves.
  • Guests should expect to take care of their own meals. If you provide some food or snacks, notify your guests and ask about their eating habits/allergies to avoid conflict.
  • Pay attention to the schedule and plan to attend meals provided by the event.
  • Let them know the best way to keep in touch with you both before and during the exchange. Your guests are strangers and will look to you for help.
  • Clarify what you're providing in the areas of housing, linens, transportation and breakfast. Remind them what they'll need to bring for themselves.
  • Let them know your schedule for the weekend and be specific about what a reasonable time in the bathroom will be. Don't make assumptions about behavior!
  • Check with other hosts to see if there are any group meals being planned which you could join. Minnesotalindy.com is a great place to start these conversations.
