http://www.wabashastreetcaves.com The Wabasha Street Caves host a Swing Night every Thursday! These nights feature a rotating big band, however, the April 29th band has not yet been selected. The dance runs from 7pm to 10pm and has a $7 cash cover. This is a classic stop for MN dancers 'back in the day' and remains a fun lead-up to Late Night Swing! Late Night Swing 3748 Minnehaha Ave S., Minneapolis, MN 55406 http://tcswing.com/latenightswing.htm Late Night Swing is the mainstay of Minneapolis and Minnesota Lindy Hop and has been for years. DJ'd by Terry Gardner and run by TC Swing, you'll find that this is where you want to be if you get in a day early. Located in South Minneapolis, it is easy to get to and only $6 or $4 for the college kids with id. The dance runs 10p to 2am and is a great opportunity to meet your host! Show Rehearsal Jawaahir The Show does not just happen, extra hard work and dedication are necessary to make it happen. Practicing, reheasal and technical production all occur during this time. All performers must be in attendance or have made prior arrangements with the Show's director. We ask that everyone else enjoy beautiful Minneapolis until Check-in. Check-in Jawaahir Check-in and registration for the weekend begins at 7pm on Friday. If you are attending the Show, you probably want to be early. Check-in will continue through-out the Show for those of you have chosen not to attend the show. The Check-in/Registration desk will be open 30 minutes before each day and staffed through-out the day. Bring any questions, comments, and concerns to the attention of this table and they will be addressed as quickly as possible. MWLF Show Jawaahir Theater The MWLF Show, founded in 2009, is quickly growing to be one of the highlights of the weekend. A great kick-off to the event, the Show features an hour of performances by the instructors and other invited guests. Seats are limited for the show, do buy your ticket ahead of time. Opening Dance Jawaahir Big Room The opening dance will feature the sweet sounds of the Mouldy Figs. This New Orleans Style Jazz Band has played for dancers for years, including an appearance at the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown. This opening night will also feature our Jack and Jill contest! A perennial favorite, this is a great way to get your competition feet wet! Late Night! Jawaahir Big Room After our dances wrap up, the band heads home, and our competitions are over, it becomes time to relax and dance the night away. Our late night dances feature some of the best DJs nationwide. You won't want to leave! Classes Jawaahir, all rooms http://www.midwestlindyfest.com/classes.php MWLF is a workshop weekend, after all. Our classes are fantastic, as always. The hit Single Ladies Routine debuted here at MWLF 2009. Who knows what we have in store for 2010! Break You decide! Break? What's this break thing all about? Well, classes and learnin is tough, whether you realize it or not! These breaks give you the opportunity to take a breather, grab a quick bite to eat, practice what you just learned and/or prepare for the next two classes. Take note of the time you have and make the right use of this hour for you. Main Dance Jawaahir Big Room Our main dance this year features Patty and the Buttons, a fantastic hard swinging group with front man Patrick Harison. You may recall Patrick from his stint with the Loose Marbles or Hot Swing Combo. He's the guy with the accordian. Don't laugh, you should have seen him at Mardi Gras. Patty and the Buttons are an amazing crew, read about them on the Music Page. Tonight is also the main event for competitions. The Amateur Lindy Hop Showdown takes place tonight, prelims on the band break and finals danced to live music. This competition brings out the best of the up and coming competitors and it's still the only way to get into anything free at Showdown. Dress sharp, Dance Hot, this is going to be a great night! Closing Dance Four Season's Dance Studio 1637 Hennepin Avenue S. Minneapolis, MN To conclude our weekend, we'll dance things out with long-time local favorite, the Twin Cities Hot Club at the more intimate Four Season's Dance Studio! This band does Django right. Come prepared to dance your heart out, it will be everything you hope it to be. We're also going to announce contest winners and probably give out a prize or two. See you then! Closing Late Night! Four Season's Dance Studio 1637 Hennepin Avenue S. Minneapolis, MN Our closing late night dance will also be hosted at Four Season's Dance Studio! |
